In-cab detection covers all of the behaviors, conditions, and device inputs that your cameras and devices are able to detect and report to LytxOne. Detections include risky driving behaviors, incidents, driver-initiated triggers, and device or power events. This article summarizes every supported detection and all of the configurations available for them.

Tailgating Event Overlay
Tailgating events include a visual overlay on the road camera video. A box is drawn around the lead vehicle that was detected ahead of the vehicle, and the box is labelled with the following distance in seconds measured at the time of detection.
The color of the box indicates how close the vehicle got to the lead vehicle, so reviewers can assess the severity of the event at a glance.
- Box – Identifies the lead vehicle detected ahead of the vehicle.
- Label – Displays the following distance in seconds.
- Color – Reflects how close the vehicle got to the lead vehicle.
The overlay appears when reviewing the event video in the Event Details Panel. Tailgating detection thresholds, including the following distance threshold, are set per event in Additional Configurations, described above.
Note
The overlay is available only on Tailgating events recorded with the
Video action. Events configured for Snapshot or Notify do not include
the overlay.
Where Detections Are Configured
Detections are configured on the Safety settings page at the fleet level, and per vehicle from the Safety tab in Asset Configuration. Each detection appears as a collapsible row with an on/off status dot and a plain-language summary of its current configuration. Rows are grouped by subject and can be filtered by:

All – Every supported detection.

Recording – Detections that record media to the cloud.

Driver alert only – Detections that trigger an in-cab alert without recording to the cloud.

Off – Detections that are currently disabled.
Recording to the cloud and the in-cab driver alert are separate controls. Turning off the in-cab alert for a detection does not disable the detection itself, and cloud recording continues as configured.
Events configurations
In Cabin Alert - Enable or disable the event in cabin alert, either at the fleet level or per vehicle.

Action - Defines the media type generated when an event is triggered:
Video – Records a 30-second video clip.
Snapshot – Captures a single still image.
Notify – No media; the event is logged without any visual content.
Note
For video events, a snapshot is captured first so immediate media
is available.
In areas with poor cellular coverage*, the system
will try to upload the video up to three times. If it fails,
only
the snapshot will appear in the event. Full video can be retrieved
from the Recordings section.

Trigger Notification - Controls when a cabin alert is activated after a safety event:
Disabled – No alert is triggered.
Immediately – Alert triggers as soon as the event occurs.
Allow Correction – Delays alert to give the driver time to self-correct.

Vehicle Type - Adjusts device behavior to match the vehicle’s size:
Light Duty – For passenger vehicles and small commercial cars used in everyday driving.
Medium Duty – For mid-sized vehicles like vans and light trucks that carry moderate loads and operate in varied conditions.
Heavy Duty – For large trucks and equipment that are used for long hours, heavy loads, or more demanding routes.

Sensitivity - Controls how easily the event is triggered:
Low – Fewer detections, reduces false positives.
Medium – Balanced detection level.
High – Detects more events, including subtle behaviors.

Tailgating
- Speed Threshold (mph) – The vehicle speed that must be exceeded to trigger an alert.
- Duration Threshold (seconds) – The minimum time the vehicle must tailgate before an alert is triggered.
- Following Distance Threshold (seconds) – The minimum following distance below which a tailgating event is triggered. Lower values trigger only on closer following distances.
- Snooze (seconds) – How long repeat detections of the same behavior are ignored after an event is created.
- Correction Time (seconds) – How long the driver is given to correct the behavior before the event is sent. Applies when Trigger Notification is set to Allow Correction.

Absolute Speed
Speed Threshold (mph) – The vehicle speed that must be exceeded to trigger an alert.
Duration Threshold (seconds) – The amount of time the vehicle must remain above the speed threshold before the alert is triggered.
Repeat Interval (seconds) – How often the driver receives an in-cabin alert while continuously exceeding the speed threshold.

Posted Speed
Speed Threshold (mph or % over limit) – The amount above the posted speed limit that must be exceeded to trigger an alert. Fleet managers can choose whether to set this threshold in miles per hour or as a percentage over the posted limit.
Duration Threshold (seconds) – The amount of time the vehicle must remain over the posted speed threshold before the alert is triggered.
Repeat Interval (seconds) – How often the driver receives an in-cabin alert while continuously exceeding the posted speed threshold.

What is the difference between "Tone" and "Coaching Alert"?
The Tone is a simple auditory notification, typically a beep, designed to alert the driver to a safety event without providing further context.
In contrast, Coaching Alerts are verbal notifications that provide specific guidance to help the driver understand and correct their behavior. These alerts are instructional and tailored to the event, offering actionable feedback.
